Eureka Springs!

I'm here! You never know what life is going to hand you, and in this case it was a big sign at the end of the jetway ramp reading "Welcome to Northwest Arkansas." So far, it's damp and warm out, the town is crazy cute, and my "culinary suite" is way bigger than my Brooklyn apt, and the kitchen--well, I could weep. Counter space for days, every kind of knife and pot and pan any Pie Queen could ever desire. Whooo-hooo! More later--there's exploring to do!

I still remember wandering through that kitchen, eyes wide and mouth slack at my good fortune. When I saw I had a dishwasher all to myself, I thought, "this is insane. This is the same size as the dishwasher in the main kitchen! I don't need a whole dishwasher just for me!" Two weeks later, I'm testing brioche recipes, multiple batches, and I realized that when you're baking 12 loaves of bread at a shot, the dishwasher is your friend.

You know, of course, that you have to bake at least one loaf of bread just so you can use the proofing cabinet. Oh, yes. :)

Welcome to Eureka, dearest. I cannot wait to chat with you properly about this!

Not to mention the ice-cream maker, which I just discovered! Wheeee! I was going to make berry shortcake for that dessert-for-30, but now I'm thinking ice cream might have to be involved, just because I CAN. Many, many thanks again!

I'm headed to the culinary suite in October 2006 for two weeks. Am anxiously looking forward to it. From your photos the suite and porch look either like a separate house, or maybe a duplex? So exciting! Any more pics you might share?
