the dumont burger

Well, le printemps seems to have commenced, lasted for two days, and then turned, weirdly, into humid almost-summer. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Isn't it bliss, utter bliss, to leave the house without socks and a down coat for the first time since November?

Went over to Williamsburg this afternoon to talk politics and dog biscuits and get my hair cut by Jessica at the nifty Beehive Salon, and then ended up rambling past Dumont, a nice neighborhood hangout that I never got around to trying back when I actually lived in the neighborhood. Inside, cream-and-black, stamped-tin walls, high ceilings, a nice bar and the specials up on chalkboards around the room.

Their namesake burger is very tall and pink as a baby's tongue inside, with hot-pink pickled onions and a nice firm bun. Mmmm. Not cheap at $9.50, and for some reason they won't give you salad instead of fries with the burger (although they will with the sandwiches) but very tasty. And it was 80s day on the sound system, with everything from New Order to INXS playing and sending me right back to college. Except that I would have had silver shoes and an assymetrical haircut back then....

Speaking of haircuts: do you have any recommendations for cute hair-cutters here in SF? The woman who cuts my hair is cool, and does a good job, but it takes her an hour and a freakin' half to cut it! Factor in travel to and from the Mission, and we're talking two hours or more to get a trim! I know it's been a while since you've lived here, but I know you still have your finger on the pulse of Fog City!

Also, next time you're in town, we need to take a lunch-time trip to Bistro Burger in the Financial District, which makes up in sheer yumminess what it might lack in ambiance. Or, if you prefer a more Johnny Rocket-like atmosphere (complete with sparkly red vinyl booths) there's Burger Joint in the Mission. The burgers aren't quite as luscious, but the counter girls sure are!

Hello.
I googled a new place I am building called dumont burger and this page came up so i figured I would give you a shout to alert you to its coming. Its meant to be a "built for speed" version of dumont that will have the same chefs doing the food. its a bit more of a bar feel and the room is inspired by the design we worked up for dumonts garden.......sans the treehouse. The location is 314 bedford at south 1st so if you are strolling through he hood please come say hello

No way! I used to live at 318 Bedford--you will be practically next door. Looking forward to checking it out--between you guys, Egg, and Diner, I could do nothing in Williamsburg but eat (and get loved on by the Spoonbill bookstore cat)...Keep me posted as to when the restaurant will be open.
